In May 2023, Guizhou Guichun New Energy Group Co., Ltd. was established as a Sino-French high-tech joint venture with the mission of "Using Methanol as a Bridge to the Hydrogen Era" .
In Europe, North America, and Brazil, the widespread adoption of high-proportion ethanol fuel (E85) has become a societal consensus. E85 reduces dependence on fossil fuels while balancing economic and environmental benefits, leveraging well-established agricultural systems and mature bioenergy industries . However, when this concept was introduced to China, we recognized that the same goals of energy security, economy, and sustainability could not be achieved by simply replicating the same fuel model. In a country with a large population and significant pressure on food security, large-scale use of grain for fuel is not sustainable .
Therefore, Guichun Group has chosen a path better aligned with China’s national conditions: using methanol as the primary fuel, integrated with hydrogen energy technology, to upgrade existing internal combustion engines . The core product—the methanol online hydrogen production system—provides efficient, low-carbon, and economical solutions for commercial vehicles, marine power, and other transportation sectors. It is particularly suitable for distributed energy applications such as mining heavy-duty trucks, port logistics, public transport systems, agricultural and engineering machinery, self-sufficient energy systems in remote areas, and military and emergency energy systems . The company’s multi-fuel intelligent control system, paired with an optimized ECU, dynamically adjusts the fuel mixture ratio based on real-time engine conditions to achieve optimal combustion efficiency .
In practical applications, methanol serves as the primary fuel. Through online hydrogen production technology, a small amount of hydrogen is generated, which acts as a combustion catalyst to improve efficiency, reduce energy consumption and emissions, while fully retaining the existing internal combustion engine system. This approach enables low-cost decarbonization upgrades . We firmly believe that methanol, as a liquid hydrogen carrier, offers a viable pathway for the evolution of the energy structure . Guichun Group is dedicated to the R&D of methanol online hydrogen production technology and the application of hydrogen energy, advancing from hydrogen-assisted combustion to hydrogen-dominated systems, and from hydrogen internal combustion engines to hydrogen fuel cell systems, covering vehicles, ships, and engineering machinery . Our goal is to open strategic channels for the evolution of the energy structure, driving China’s energy system toward a low-carbon and sustainable future .
In December 2023, the company entered into a strategic partnership with Guizhou Aisite Nano Technology Co., Ltd. to form a dedicated R&D team for jointly developing a new generation of methanol online hydrogen production equipment integrated with rare-earth thin film heating technology .
In January 2024, the company partnered with Xifu Hydrogen Energy Technology (Guangdong) Co., Ltd., which will produce specialized engine oil for Guichun. The oil-soluble graphene technology in its lubricants provides robust protection for alcohol-hydrogen internal combustion engines .
